Audio Guide

The two industries I've chosen to look at is Film and Games.
For Film I will be looking at how the techniques of imagery being used, as well as the music, effects, targeted audience and etc.

For Game - I will be looking at the same things as film, and something bonus I'll be looking at is how realism is used.

Film - Mama 2013.

In Mamas clip there's:
  • Noise
  • Silence
  • Effects

The way noise is used in this scene is of the flickering light-bulb, which is infact the main focus of the scene. Effects that the light-bulb gives off is very quick, short and jolty flickers. Silence is used in the scene (no dialogue).

The purposes of these effects was chosen because having no dialogue has that suspense feeling of what is going to happen next drawing in the audience, making them know something spooky is going to happen but they just do not know when and the flickering light-bulb creates tension of ghostly presents. Also caused because of Mama's hatred towards Annabel. As it shows Annabel in the kitchen playing her guitar but the amplifier is short-circuiting because Mama doesn't want Annabel in the house (let alone play instruments). Also it shows that Mama has power and control of what happens in the house.

Game - Gears of War 3 (Dom's Death)

In Gears of War 3 there's:
  • Noise
  • Effects
  • Dialogue
  • Music

Noise and effects is mostly used throughout this clip of war battle including explosions and shooting guns. Dialogue is used with a backdrop of music.
The purpose of these effects was chosen to create realism, so the players feel involved (as they're in the game). The music and dialogue works with this well causing emotional effect for the players.

TV - Sky Rainforest Advert

In Sky Rainforest Ad there's:
  • Music
  • Effects
  • Dialogue

Hope, happiness and nature is what the music gives the viewers. This helps the effects to make the viewers understand and donate. The dialogue used by Lily Cole in this advert gives an understanding of letting viewers know its important to save the Rainforest because our natural daily recourses we use is practically Rainforest made. Such as shoe-soles, skin care, medicine and food and drink.

The purpose is to make people aware of deforestation and help protect one billion trees in a state called Acre in north-west Brazil. Sky's works with local people there in three key ways that reduce deforestation by helping families make a fair and sustainable living.

Web - The Swarm (Thorpe Park)

In The Swarm clip there's:
  • Sound
  • Noise
  • Effects

All three of these work well together giving a thrilling feeling so that the riders have fun. The noise used is off the ride and people on it, also effects given off from the sound is a heart-beating sound which suggest whilst the riders is on the ride it gives them nervous feeling.

The purpose is to make people know what the ride is and what happens when you're on it because you cannot have a ride or any form of product and be advertising it without visually knowing what it is. So having a clip of the ride on the website gives a more understanding of what to expect of the ride before you get to Thorpe Park, as if you were to go there of only the description on the website (sounding great) and once you get there and try the ride its nothing as you expected.

BBC Radio - Detective

In Detective there's:
  • Effects
  • Noise
  • Dialogue
  • Background Silence
All these are used in Detective, although mostly dialogue and background silence. The effects used in this is when the detective is in the car (using the siren) and any banging, etc.
The purpose of having silence in the background is because the play generally has dialogs, so the director wants people to be able to hear clearly and not mistake words that's been said, for example you cant have a play when someone is talking and lots of loud noise in the background. This will cause people to loose interest.
